Brooks Buttons are highly prized by collectors and are increasingly hard to find with escalating values. Edith & Alan Brooks painted their buttons on plastic (mostly casein) and glass blanks in England in the 1940-50's. Two sets of their buttons were accepted by Queen Elizabeth II as gifts for Prince Charles and Princess Anne, these were also sold to the general public. On the second page here there is a card of buttons shown that indicates this style was presented to Princess Anne. The sizes range from 1/2" to 3/4" and were decorated with a deft hand using fine camel hair brushes. A clear laquer was added to make the design permanent. The Brooks were primarily known as painters and only occasionally decorated buttons, making these examples highly sought. Thanks to my friends and fellow collectors in the ButtonBytes Club, here are some outstanding examples of Brooks Buttons. Comments? just click here: carolc@vintagebuttons.net to e-mail me!
